In continuation of their efforts to enhance the interoperability between the forces, Indian and US Army held the annual two week long Exercise Yudh Abhyas – 2017 at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, USA. While India was represented by soldiers of Gorkha Rifles from the Surya Command, the US contingent was represented by Company of 5th Infantry Battalion from 20 Infantry Regiment of the US Army, during the high stake exercise.
Exercise Yudh Abhyas is one of the largest joint running military training and defence corporation endeavours between India and USA. This was the 13th edition of the joint exercise hosted alternately between the two countries. The exercise provided an opportunity to the armed forces of both countries to train in an integrated manner at Battalion level with joint planning at Brigade level.
During the two weeks long exercise, soldiers from both countries honed their tactical skills in counter insurgency and counter terrorist operations under a joint brigade headquarter. Both sides jointly trained, planed and executed a series of well-developed tactical drills for neutralization of likely threats that may be encountered in UN peace keeping operations. Experts from both sides held detailed discussions sharing their experience and expertise on varied operational topics for mutual benefit.
Multiple scenarios were rehearsed during the joint exercise with a view to understand each-other’s organisational structure and battle procedures which would result in a higher degree of jointmanship that would further facilitate interoperability between the armed forces of both countries to meet any unforeseen contingency across the globe. The exercise, according to forces, is also an ideal platform to learn from each-other’s experiences of planning and execution of operations.
