Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System, indigenously designed and developed by Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), has been field evaluated in different flight configurations several times with the objective of proving the technology with high superiority. The system consisted of the MPATGM, Launcher, Target Acquisition System, and the Fire Control Unit.
A sufficient amount of missile firing experiments have been carried out with success in order to comply with the entire operational envelope as required by the General Staff Qualitative Requirements (Infantry, Indian Army). On April 13, 2024, the Warhead Flight Trials were carried out at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan with great success. It was discovered that the missile and warhead performances were outstanding.
The MPATGM Tandem Warhead System has successfully completed penetration trials and has proven to be capable of defeating modern armour-protected Main Battle Tanks. The ATGM system has top assault capabilities and is well-equipped for day and night operations. The inclusion of dual mode seeker functionality to the missile arsenal for tank warfare is highly valuable. Now that the system has successfully completed its development and demonstration, it is prepared for the final user evaluation trials that will precede its acceptance into the Indian Army.
