There are a lot of issues with the use of AI in the armed forces.
For instance, the use of Power BI in the EME (Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) or even for Armoured Corps could increase the efficiency of repairs, spare parts management, ammunition handling, etc. However, it is not permitted in the army, and I would say rightfully so.
AI or software tools like PowerBI use the internet for continuous upgrading, and connecting your existing data to the internet is a risky affair. As soon as it is connected, it can be hacked. Even for the collation of data, there is initially a requirement for transfer via the internet, CD, or USB flash drive. These sources can also be used to extract information. We all know that USB drives are banned in the armed forces. And, obviously, connecting any confidential data to the internet is prohibited as well.
Even when using an AI tool on a standalone computer, there are challenges. We can call it old-school, but never forget what happened to the pagers of #Hezbollah. We certainly don’t want to be hacked and lose all our sensitive data.
Which AI tool would we use that does not require upgrading or downloading from the internet? Which AI-enabled software is purely indigenous? AI algorithms are extremely complex, and one can never fully understand the potential bugs that could be planted.
We man our systems and don’t leave them for AI to handle. Call the #Forces old school, but despite daily efforts by #China, our systems are far from being hacked. And we would like to keep it that way until we find better and foolproof indigenous systems.
