The event highlighted the Directorate’s role in enhancing quality assurance for military aviation and its contribution to the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat.’

The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA), a pivotal organization in India’s defense sector, marked its 71st Raising Day with a grand celebration at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi, on August 31, 2024. This milestone event not only commemorated the Directorate’s illustrious history but also underscored its vital role in ensuring the highest standards of quality in military aviation stores.

The event was graced by Secretary of Defence Production, Shri Sanjeev Kumar, as the Chief Guest, who praised DGAQA’s journey from its inception in 1954 to its current stature with 50 establishments spread across India. He emphasized the critical importance of adopting advanced quality assurance techniques to align with global aeronautical practices, a step he termed as essential to achieving the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ or self-reliant India.

In a significant development during the event, Shri Sanjeev Kumar, alongside other distinguished dignitaries, released the DGAQA’s basic governing documents, namely “Approval of a Firm and its Quality Management System Issue-III: 2024.” This document grants greater autonomy to Indian industries involved in military aviation, thus promoting ease of doing business and furthering the government’s indigenization efforts.

Director General of DGAQA, Shri Sanjay Chawla, took the opportunity to reflect on the Directorate’s remarkable journey over the past seven decades. He highlighted the organization’s exponential growth, from a single establishment in 1954 to a robust network of 50 establishments across the country. Shri Chawla also elaborated on the steps taken by DGAQA to drive indigenization in defense manufacturing, a crucial aspect of realizing self-reliance in India’s defense sector.

As the regulatory authority responsible for the quality assurance of military aviation stores for the Indian Air Force, Army Aviation, Naval Aviation, and the Indian Coast Guard, DGAQA’s role has been instrumental in maintaining the integrity and performance of India’s military aviation assets. The 71st Raising Day celebration not only honored the past achievements of the Directorate but also set the stage for its future endeavors in advancing India’s defense capabilities.
