October 1, 2024, marks a monumental day in Indian Armed Forces Medical Services’ history as it welcomes its first-ever female Director General in Vice Admiral Arti Sarin. It’s a monumental event for AFMS and women in military leadership. As the first female DGAFMS, Vice Admiral Sarin has raised the flag for gender equality in the defense sector.

Vice Admiral Sarin is a graduate of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, in Pune. She completed her initial medical training and later joined AFMC in December 1985. She is a qualified doctor with an excellent academic record:

- DNB in Radiation Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai
- Specializes in Gamma Knife Surgery from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
