The Russian Ministry of Defence has announced that its forces have reclaimed over 800 square kilometres (64%) of territory in the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces.
Colonel General Sergei Rudskoi, head of the General Staff’s main operational directorate, stated that Russian troops are advancing on all fronts, forcing Ukraine into a defensive stance following a large-scale offensive launched in February 2024.
According to Rudskoi, Russia now controls 75% of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as over 99% of the Luhansk region—territories Russia claims as its own.
