Sigma Advanced Systems Limited (“Sigma”), a global aerospace and defence engineering and manufacturing company, today announced that it has secured an order valued at US$19.70 million (approximately ₹174 crore) from a North American customer serving the NATO defence ecosystem for the manufacture and supply of specialised ancillary subsystems for 155 mm artillery ammunition. The order is scheduled to be executed by Q2 2027, with manufacturing to be undertaken within the Sigma ecosystem.
The order marks Sigma’s fifth 155 mm engagement since May 2026, reflecting the steady expansion of its capabilities across the artillery ammunition value chain. With shell bodies, filled fuzes, advanced base-bleed shell technology, course-correction fuze collaboration and now ancillary subsystems within its portfolio, Sigma is progressing beyond individual ammunition component supply towards a broader manufacturing and engineering partnership across multiple elements of the artillery round.
Global rearmament is reshaping the artillery ammunition supply chain
The Russia–Ukraine war has highlighted the scale of artillery ammunition consumption in high-intensity conflicts and the importance of sustained industrial capacity. NATO members and allied governments have responded by prioritising inventory replenishment, longer-term procurement and expansion of ammunition manufacturing capabilities.
The European Union’s Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP), launched in 2024 with €500 million in funding, was designed to address production bottlenecks and strengthen Europe’s ammunition manufacturing base. NATO has also advanced initiatives focused on aggregating demand, supporting multi-year procurement and expanding industrial capacity.
These developments highlight a broader shift in defence procurement. Meeting demand at scale requires dependable manufacturing capacity across the supply chain, including the specialised components and subsystems needed to support ammunition production.
For manufacturers such as Sigma, this creates opportunities to establish deeper positions within international defence programmes. As customers scale production and introduce more advanced technologies, the ability to support multiple elements of a product can become an important differentiator in supplier selection and long-term programme participation.
From individual components to a broader ammunition manufacturing capability
Sigma’s progression in the 155 mm segment is reflected in a series of commercial wins and capability-building initiatives.

|
October 2026 – Course-correction fuze collaboration |
Exclusive MoU |
Established a collaboration with Munitions India Limited for integration, indigenous manufacture and supply of course-correction fuzes, associated subsystems and technologies. |
|
October 2026 – Ancillary subsystems |
US$19.7 million |
Further broadened Sigma’s manufacturing scope into specialised ammunition subsystems, strengthening its position beyond standalone components. |
The latest order is significant not only for its value, but also for the nature of the capabilities it adds to Sigma’s portfolio. Shell bodies establish a foundation in precision manufacturing, while fuze technologies and ancillary subsystems extend the scope of engineering, integration and manufacturing expertise required across the ammunition system.
Subsystems and fuze integration can involve greater engineering content than standalone components, including tighter coordination between interfaces, component performance, manufacturing processes and quality requirements. This creates an opportunity for Sigma to participate in more technically involved programmes and pursue a greater share of the value generated across the supply chain.
As customers increase production volumes or adopt new ammunition technologies, a supplier with experience across complementary components and subsystems can be better positioned to address adjacent requirements. Sigma’s expanding portfolio provides a platform to pursue such opportunities, subject to programme qualification, customer requirements and commercial agreements.
Moving up the value chain
The strategic significance of the order extends beyond the addition of a new product category. It supports Sigma’s broader ambition to build a more integrated presence in international defence manufacturing, with engineering capabilities and production expertise spanning multiple elements of the 155 mm ammunition ecosystem.
A wider portfolio can enable the company to build on existing manufacturing infrastructure, quality systems and customer relationships while pursuing programmes with higher technical complexity. It also creates opportunities to engage with customers earlier in the development and industrialisation process, where relevant, and to support evolving production requirements over the life of a programme.
The company’s recent engagements demonstrate a progression from filled fuzes to conventional and advanced shell bodies, alongside collaboration on course-correction fuze technology and the addition of ancillary subsystems. This combination strengthens Sigma’s platform for pursuing adjacent requirements as international customers expand capacity and diversify their supply chains.
The latest order is consistent with Sigma’s strategy of expanding its international defence manufacturing footprint and building a more enduring role in specialised engineering and manufacturing programmes.
Building towards a sustained international partnership
The current engagement provides another opportunity for Sigma to demonstrate its manufacturing capabilities, quality standards and execution discipline in support of an international defence customer.
As the programme progresses, its successful execution could support further engagement around the customer’s evolving requirements. Any additional orders or longer-term supply arrangements would remain subject to customer demand, programme performance and mutually agreed commercial terms.
With international defence customers placing greater emphasis on reliable industrial capacity and increasingly specialised manufacturing capabilities, Sigma intends to continue developing its position across the global ammunition supply chain.
Commenting on the order, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO, Sigma Advanced Systems Limited, said:
“Global defence customers are looking beyond individual components to partners who can support increasingly complex manufacturing requirements across the ammunition supply chain. This calls for engineering depth, manufacturing consistency and the ability to deliver specialised products at scale.
“This order builds on the capabilities Sigma has developed across the 155 mm segment and marks a further step in broadening our role in international defence manufacturing. Our focus is on building capabilities that allow us to participate in more technically demanding programmes and respond to customers’ evolving requirements. We see this engagement as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the customer and expand our contribution to the wider ammunition manufacturing ecosystem.”
