On the 78th Independence Day, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is set to launch an ambitious plantation drive, aiming to plant 15 lakh trees across the nation. This initiative, part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to action on World Environment Day. The campaign seeks to encourage citizens to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers, fostering a deeper connection with nature and enhancing environmental sustainability.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign inspires individuals to plant a tree in memory of their mothers. This heartfelt initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation among citizens.

Raksha Mantri’s Participation

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh actively participated in the campaign by planting a tree in memory of his mother. His involvement underscores the campaign’s importance and encourages others to join the movement. Singh emphasized the need for collective efforts in protecting nature and making the environment protection movement more dynamic and effective.

Extensive Involvement of Defence Organizations

The tree plantation drive will be carried out through the three Services – the Army, Navy, and Air Force – along with various associated organizations such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Sainik Schools, and Ordnance factories. This extensive involvement ensures the drive’s wide reach and significant impact.

Impact and Importance

Planting 15 lakh trees will not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also reinforce the significance of trees in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and improving air quality. This initiative aligns with global efforts to mitigate environmental degradation and promotes a greener, healthier future for the coming generations.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign by the Ministry of Defence is a monumental step towards environmental conservation. By planting 15 lakh trees on the 78th Independence Day, the campaign pays tribute to mothers and encourages nationwide participation in protecting our environment.
