In a significant display of its commitment to regional cooperation and humanitarian outreach, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed its C-17 Globemaster aircraft as part of Operation Sadbhav, a mission aimed at providing immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to flood-affected areas in Vietnam and Laos. The operation is a timely response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Yagi, which has left many regions submerged and in urgent need of aid. In addition to the air deployment, the Indian Navy has mobilized its INS Satpura to Myanmar, showcasing India’s extensive efforts to support neighboring nations during crises.
The IAF’s C-17 Globemaster, known for its heavy-lift capabilities, is being utilized to transport 35 tons of critical relief material from the Hindan Air Force Station to Vietnam. This consignment includes essential items such as water purification systems, which are vital in areas where clean drinking water has become scarce due to flooding. Containers, blankets, and kitchen utensils are also part of the aid package, providing basic necessities to those who have lost their homes and belongings. Solar lanterns are being sent to combat the widespread power outages, and hygiene supplies, mosquito nets, and sleeping bags will help protect flood survivors from disease and ensure some degree of comfort in emergency shelters.
In addition to the aid being delivered to Vietnam, the C-17 Globemaster is also transporting 10 tons of relief materials to Laos, which has been similarly affected by the typhoon. Laos will receive water purification kits, blankets, hygiene supplies, and mosquito nets, among other essential items, as part of the relief effort. These supplies are expected to significantly assist the flood-hit regions in Laos, where access to basic services has been severely disrupted.
Meanwhile, INS Satpura, a frontline stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, has been deployed to Myanmar with a consignment of 10 tons of aid. The ship is carrying dry rations, clothing, and medicines to help the people of Myanmar cope with the aftermath of the disaster. With extensive flooding and displacement of people, this aid is expected to provide immediate relief to affected communities and support recovery efforts.
Through Operation Sadbhav, India once again demonstrates its proactive role in regional disaster response and humanitarian assistance. The swift mobilization of both air and naval assets underscores the country’s capability to assist its neighbors in times of need, fostering stronger diplomatic ties and promoting stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
