US defense sector benefits from Ukraine crisis, with record $81 billion in sales

Date:

Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the US defense industry has sold record amounts of weapons; through its international military sales program, the business is expected to reach $80.9 billion in revenue in 2023.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which reports to the US Department of Defense, is tasked with “advancing US defense and foreign policy interests by building the capacity of foreign partners in order to encourage and enable allies and partners to respond to shared challenges.” This includes overseeing military sales worldwide.

In addition to the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System, and M1A1 Abrams Main Battle tanks, the main ticket items included the AH-64E helicopters that Poland purchased. The Netherlands and Sweden were the other two nations that were major buyers of US military equipment.

“As we’ve examined ourselves during the Ukraine crisis, one of the most important lessons we’ve learnt is the state of our defense industrial base. Hursch, the DSCA Director, stated that we must give that greater consideration.

It’s also true that the strength of the industrial base is becoming increasingly important in Europe. Additionally, we’re searching for methods to collaborate across various industrial bases,” he continued.
