Escalating Tensions in Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistani Army Behind Increased Terrorist Attacks?

Date:

Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza, a prominent activist from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), has provided critical insights into these developments. This article discusses the involvement of the Pakistani army, the strategic infiltration routes, and the Indian army’s response to this threat.

The scenic valleys of Jammu and Kashmir have once again become a battleground, with an alarming rise in terrorist activities. Contrary to initial reports, these attacks are not just the work of isolated terrorist groups but are orchestrated by the Pakistani army. Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza, a renowned activist from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), has unveiled this disturbing reality, pointing fingers at high-ranking Pakistani military officials.

Pakistani Army’s Involvement in Jammu and Kashmir

On Saturday, July 27th, Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza exposed the Pakistani army’s direct involvement in terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Mirza, Major General Adil Rahmani of the Special Services Group (SSG) is leading these operations. He revealed that an entire battalion of SSG, comprising at least 600 commandos, has infiltrated India and is hiding in the Kupwara region.

Strategic Hideouts and Support

The Kupwara area, nestled between the Pir Panjal and Shamsbari mountains, offers an ideal hideout for these forces. Local jihadi sleeper cells are reportedly aiding the Pakistani army, providing logistical support and facilitating their movements. Mirza also highlighted the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Shahid Salim Janjua, who commands the attacks in Jammu, targeting the Indian Army’s 15th Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps.

Impending Threats and Historical Context

Mirza warned that two additional battalions of SSG, stationed in Muzaffarabad (PoK), are prepared to infiltrate Indian territory through Jammu and Kashmir. If successful, these infiltrations could lead to a conflict reminiscent of the Kargil war, where around 5,000 Pakistani soldiers entered Indian territory, resulting in a 62-day conflict with significant casualties.

Indian Army’s Counter-Operations

In response, the Indian Army has ramped up its operations to neutralize the threat. Operation Sarp Vinash 2.0 has been launched to eliminate terrorists and Pakistani soldiers hiding in the mountains. The operation involves a substantial deployment of soldiers, including 3,000 PARA SF soldiers, 500 commandos, 200 snipers, J&K police personnel, and BSF battalions from Odisha.

Role of Village Defence Guards (VDGs)

The Indian Army has also activated Village Defence Guards (VDGs), who played a crucial role in combating terrorism between 1995 and 2003. With their extensive knowledge of the local terrain, VDGs are assisting the army in reaching otherwise inaccessible areas. Security forces have secured an 80 km radius of the mountainous regions, targeting rivers, rain drains, and old infiltration routes.

Recent Incidents and International Implications

The recent uptick in terrorist activities follows the recent election results, suggesting dissatisfaction among Pakistan and terrorist groups with the outcome. Notable incidents include a bus attack in Reasi, Jammu, resulting in nine fatalities, and subsequent attacks in Kathua, Doda district, and Kulgam. The recovery of Chinese weapons from killed terrorists raises concerns about international support for these activities.

As tensions continue to escalate in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army remains vigilant and determined to secure the region. The revelations by Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza have underscored the critical need for robust defense measures and international cooperation to address the growing threat. The situation remains precarious, with the potential for large-scale conflict reminiscent of the Kargil war. However, with strategic operations and local support, India aims to thwart these threats and maintain peace and stability in the region.
