Smriti Singh, the wife of the late Capt Anshuman Singh, is a lady full of dignity and grace. Capt Anshuman Singh received the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for saving the lives of his fellow jawans in Siachen. Unfortunately, he lost his life in the effort.
Smriti has been in the spotlight since receiving the award. A young lady who dared to express her love for her late husband while retaining the calm and composure to narrate their story to the world, she has somehow irked the conservative patriarchal setup of our society. Her steel-like grit has been too much for our largely patriarchal social structure to digest.
From people trying to snoop on her on various social media platforms to someone dropping a lewd comment on her picture, we as a society have shown our true character, and it’s not pretty. Simply put, her passionate love story with her late husband has invoked jealousy in many of his relatives.
Despite all this, Smriti has remained calm and composed. The love story of the couple fills the hearts of most people with warmth and love. They first met in an engineering college and fell in love at first sight. It may sound unreal to some, but the fact is stranger than fiction, for it involves God’s imagination, which is far more profound than any human can ever conceive. However, Anshuman got admission to the Armed Forces Medical College soon after knowing Smriti for only about a month.
After dating in their early 20s for eight long years and being in a long-distance relationship, the couple tied the knot in February 2023. On July 18, 2023, the young couple shared their ideas of life together over a telephonic conversation. From wanting to have a warm home with kids one day to discussing how blissful life together would be, they talked about it all. However, the very next day, Capt Anshuman wrote another script with his valor and courage, devoting his life to his motherland and becoming immortal forever. Anshuman had become everyone’s hero. Smriti found herself unable to cope with this, saying, “I’ve hoped that maybe this is not true. I considered myself the top priority for my husband; turns out I’m just a little behind his motherland, India.”
The nation cannot repay the sorrow this young lady has endured; no amount of money can. Like her husband, she has lost all that she had, but she has the choice to rebuild her life on her own terms, and society dare not judge or even bother about what she cares to do from now on.
Anshuman was a well-educated young man and had left his ‘Will’ with the army authorities, which should settle any debate regarding his inheritance. The army authorities have made it clear that they have strictly followed Capt Anshuman’s Will.
Smriti Singh is our country’s pride. She married a hero who gave everything for this nation. The national hero loved Smriti immensely, and now we understand the reason for his love towards her. His ‘Will’ must be respected in letter and spirit.
Very true. Blessed are the parents and ladies who marry to these true heroes of nation. Everyone gets paid for their work. Just imagine what these people paid for? They put their lives on stake. They dont run after money for them nation is always above everything. Jai hind
